Description

Pushing Hands is the bridge between solo form and real martial application — where “opponent is hard, I am soft” stops being a phrase and becomes something you can actually do with a training partner. This course covers all the major Wudang pushing hands exercises in a clear, structured way, plus a detailed freestyle segment that teaches you to apply the eight major forces spontaneously — not just in fixed patterns.

What it trains

  • “Listening” through touch — at close range, sight is too slow and too easy to fake out. Pushing Hands develops the tactile sensitivity to feel an opponent’s intention the moment they move, so you’re never caught by surprise.
  • Balance and structure — you’ll learn to find and exploit an opponent’s weak lines while protecting your own, using leverage rather than strength. This is where “four ounces deflecting a thousand pounds” stops being theory.
  • Composure under pressure — training with a live partner is what actually teaches you to stay relaxed and think clearly when someone’s trying to unbalance you, rather than reverting to tension and force-on-force.

The eight energies (Ba Fa)

The technical toolkit of the whole art, covered in practical depth:

Energy What it does
Peng (Ward-off) Keeps your structure from collapsing under pressure
Lu (Roll-back) Leads an opponent’s force into empty space
Ji (Press) A focused, two-point force to break through a guard
An (Push) Whole-body force to unbalance or strike the core
Cai (Pluck) A sharp pull to snap an opponent’s balance
Lie (Split) Spiralling, opposing force to break structure
Zhou (Elbow) Short-range striking power at close distance
Kao (Shoulder) Full-bodyweight displacement at point-blank range

This is the course that turns the form from something you perform into something you can actually use — the mandatory step between solo practice and the martial reality of the art.
