Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan)is a unique martial art and personal cultivation system based on Taoist ideas and principles. The fundamental principle is that of non-duality and harmonisation with the changes and manifestations of Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang are present in physical actions, thoughts and energetic movement.
By training in Taijiquan, we can learn to harmonise and optimise the functioning of the various materialistic aspects of the body, whilst training the achievement of a profound sense of emotional and psychological tranquility.
The self defence aspects of Taijiquan are designed to enable you to defend yourself using minimum force and effort.
The Yin-Yang symbol is a visual representation of the ‘Taiji’ philosophy. Yin and Yang are ever present and interacting. Quan means martial art or ‘fist method’.
Below you can see photographs of the Tai Chi form positions, from the classical long form, as well as a few example self defence applications of these forms. Yin and Yang, form and function.
